In my humble opinion, Ella enchanted was the worst movie adaptation. Its one of my favorite books but the movie totally miscast Anne Hathaway and the singing...blech. I was so upset that people might think the book was as bad lol.
Best movie adaptation I think is Little Dorrit. I read the book but actually ended up liking the movie better because it was more realistic. Amy Dorrit wasn't a perfectly meek mousy angel, Arthur clennam wasn't sorry for himself every second of the story, and overall the story just seemed to take itself more seriously as a movie. But maybe Dickens is always a little nonsensical in his writings I dunno
I might say the ducky face Jane Eyre is one of the best also except that Janes character wouldn't uh, kiss Mr Rochester so much. I thought that was the biggest downside of the movie.

I'm going to have to read Ella Enchanted now, as a basis for comparison. Dickens loves to make fun of people, especially lawyers. He hates lawyers. Ducky face should be called 'sucky face' or maybe 'I'm gonna eat your face' LOL

Tracy you've never read it?? Its been a while since I've read it but it's like a fantasy staple in my book library. Its so much fun and a quick read.

The worst is Percy Jackson by far. The best..is tougher. LOTR was good for what little they could work with!

I totally forgot we even have this forum. Seems like ages. Okay, so I read Ella Enchanted a while back and yes, completely different and better than the movie. Why must they ruin everything.

And I didn't notice this either somehow, so observant today. Yeah Percy Jackson movies strayed quite a bit from the books. Can't really comment on LOTR because I never read the books, but I have heard from several people that the movies cut a lot out. I guess you do the best you can with what time you have in that particular case.

I heard John Carter movie was completely different from the book. A friend of mine was livid...haha but I really enjoyed it. Im sorry..I havent seen or watched Ella Enchnted. My ridiculous manly pride has prohibited me from doing so. Jk Iv e seen Princess Dairies and North and South soo..Oh right and Scarlet Pimpernel, which I loved both the book and the movie!

I always forget John Carter was a Disney movie. That seems so random for them.
Lol you're not missing out on Ella enchanted, don't worry. As a matter of fact, please don't watch it. I love princess diaries though hehe.
And north and south is awesome! I'd actually like to read that one to see the differences. At first I had a feeling Mr Thornton wouldn't be as brooding and always casting longing stares like, but then I read a snippet in the book where he's like, "Margaret, oh margaret, you are my life's blood, my oxygen," etc etc. Ok maybe he didn't say that exactly but it was close.
Scarlet Pimpernel is another one I like the book and movie interchangeably. Each have things I like. It would be cool if they did a modern movie of it.

I'm going to add Poldark to awesome movie (well really, series) adaptation. I didn't actually finish the book, but from what I read it was very good. Just more simple and direct than the series, in a way. The movie has more character development and subtlety I think. Did I mention I love this series?
